Overview

Anonymous Submissions for Gravity Forms gives you a straightforward way to collect useful responses without retaining the identifying submission metadata Gravity Forms normally stores automatically.

Choose which forms should be anonymized, and the plugin removes the submitter’s IP address, source URL, browser user agent, and logged-in WordPress user ID from each new entry. Submitted field answers remain intact, so surveys, feedback forms, questionnaires, suggestion boxes, and reporting forms can still support your normal review and follow-up workflows.

Anonymization is controlled form by form. Your selected forms receive the additional privacy protections, while every other Gravity Form continues working normally.

How it works

  1. Install and activate the plugin alongside Gravity Forms.
  2. Open Forms → Anonymizer in the WordPress dashboard.
  3. Select the active forms that should not retain identifying submission metadata.
  4. Save the settings and continue collecting responses as usual.

For selected forms, the plugin prevents the submitter’s IP address from being stored during normal submission processing. It then clears the remaining managed metadata immediately after the Gravity Forms entry is created.

If a selected form already has entries, use the Management tab to count and anonymize the identifying metadata stored with those earlier submissions.

Key features

Form-by-form anonymization

Choose exactly which active Gravity Forms should be anonymized using a simple checkbox interface. Forms that are not selected remain unchanged.

Removes identifying entry metadata

The plugin clears the automatic submission details that could help connect a response to a particular person or device:

  • Submitter IP address
  • Form source URL
  • Browser user-agent information
  • Logged-in WordPress user ID

Preserves submitted answers

Field responses remain available in Gravity Forms for review, reporting, exports, notifications, and other workflows. The plugin targets identifying entry metadata rather than deleting the useful content of the submission.

Protects new submissions

IP storage is prevented while Gravity Forms processes submissions from selected forms. The remaining managed metadata is cleared as soon as the entry has been saved.

Anonymizes existing entries

Already collecting responses? The Management tab shows how many entries on your selected forms still contain managed identifying metadata and lets an administrator clear it in one action.

Disables identity-bearing Gravity Forms features

The plugin automatically disables two features on selected forms that can create additional identifying records:

  • IP-based view counting, which relies on visitor IP information
  • Save and Continue, because draft submissions can separately retain IP addresses, source URLs, email addresses, and partial answers

Fits into the Gravity Forms dashboard

All controls live under Forms → Anonymizer, with separate Settings and Management tabs. A direct Settings link is also available from the WordPress Plugins screen.

Safe uninstall option

Choose whether the plugin’s settings and licensing information should be removed when the plugin is uninstalled.

Built for privacy-conscious forms

Anonymous Submissions for Gravity Forms is useful anywhere you want candid responses without Gravity Forms automatically attaching account or request metadata. Potential uses include:

  • Employee or organizational feedback
  • Customer satisfaction surveys
  • Anonymous suggestion boxes
  • Community questionnaires
  • Internal reporting forms
  • Research and opinion surveys
  • Post-event feedback
  • Sensitive experience reports

An important note about anonymity

The plugin removes specific metadata stored automatically by Gravity Forms, but the design of the form still matters.

A form cannot provide anonymous responses if it directly asks for a name, email address, telephone number, identifying upload, or other personal information. Payment add-ons, third-party integrations, email notifications, analytics tools, security plugins, Gravity Forms logging, and web-server logs may also retain information independently.

For a genuinely privacy-conscious workflow, review the form fields and every connected system before promising complete anonymity to respondents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are submitted answers deleted?

No. The plugin preserves the answers submitted through your form fields. It removes the automatic identifying metadata associated with the entry, including the submitter’s IP address, source URL, browser user agent, and logged-in WordPress user ID.

Can I choose which Gravity Forms are anonymized?

Yes. Anonymization is enabled form by form. Go to Forms → Anonymizer, select the active forms you want to protect, and save your settings. Forms that are not selected continue working normally.

Can I anonymize entries that already exist?

Yes. After selecting your forms, open the Management tab to see how many existing entries still contain managed identifying metadata. You can then remove that metadata from those entries with one administrative action.

Does this plugin guarantee complete anonymity?

No single WordPress plugin can guarantee anonymity across every part of a website. Anonymous Submissions for Gravity Forms removes specific metadata automatically stored by Gravity Forms, but your form fields, notifications, add-ons, analytics tools, security software, debug logs, and web-server logs may collect information separately.

You should review the complete form and its connected systems before promising complete anonymity to respondents.

Can I include name or email fields on an anonymous form?

Technically, yes—but the response would no longer be anonymous if the respondent completes those fields. For a form intended to be anonymous, avoid requesting names, email addresses, telephone numbers, identifying uploads, account numbers, or other information that could identify the respondent.

Why is Save and Continue disabled on anonymized forms?

Gravity Forms stores draft submissions separately, and those records can contain an IP address, source URL, email address, and partial answers. The plugin disables Save and Continue on selected forms to avoid creating this additional identity-bearing record.

Does the plugin disable Gravity Forms notifications?

No. Standard Gravity Forms notifications can continue to run. However, notifications may contain submitted answers or send information to an email provider, so you should review their recipients and content as part of your privacy workflow.

Does it affect forms that I have not selected?

No. The anonymization behavior is limited to the forms selected under Forms → Anonymizer. Other Gravity Forms continue storing and processing entries normally.

What information does the plugin remove?

For each selected form, the plugin removes the following Gravity Forms entry metadata:

  • Submitter IP address
  • Source or submission URL
  • Browser user-agent information
  • Logged-in WordPress user ID

It also disables IP-based view counting and the Save and Continue feature on selected forms.

Will payment forms and third-party add-ons still store information?

They may. Payment add-ons, CRM integrations, marketing platforms, webhooks, email services, and other Gravity Forms add-ons can store or transmit information independently. This plugin does not erase data held by those outside systems, so anonymized forms should generally avoid payment processing and identity-dependent integrations unless their privacy behavior has been reviewed.

Where are the plugin settings?

Open Forms → Anonymizer in the WordPress dashboard. You can also click the Settings link beside Anonymous Submissions for Gravity Forms on the WordPress Plugins screen.

How can I verify that anonymization is working?

Submit a test entry through one of your selected forms, then inspect the entry in Gravity Forms. The submitted field answers should remain available, while the IP address, source URL, browser user agent, and created-by WordPress user should be empty.

How does licensing work?

Licensed builds include a Licensing tab under Forms → Anonymizer. Enter and activate your license there to receive updates and use licensed functionality.
