Impact API Connector
Reliable WooCommerce conversions, delivered beyond the browser.
Impact API Connector sends WooCommerce conversion data directly to impact.com and gives every eligible order a recoverable delivery path—with automatic retries, reconciliation, backfills, manual resends, and searchable logs. It works alongside your existing Impact link tracking to make server-side conversion reporting more reliable, visible, and manageable.
Tested up to: WordPress 7.1, WooCommerce 11
Overview
Impact API Connector gives WooCommerce stores a dependable way to submit conversion data directly to the impact.com Conversions API.
Traditional browser-side tracking is useful for capturing an affiliate visit, but conversion delivery can become uncertain when a customer closes the page, a payment finishes later, or an API request temporarily fails. Impact API Connector moves responsibility for reporting the completed order into WordPress, where the result can be recorded, retried, reviewed, and recovered.
The plugin works alongside your existing Impact WordPress plugin or Universal Tracking Tag. Your normal Impact integration continues capturing inbound affiliate clicks, while Impact API Connector stores trusted attribution on the WooCommerce order and handles the server-side conversion submission.
When an eligible order is paid, the connector prepares its conversion data and submits it to Impact. Successful submissions are recorded on the order. Temporary failures can be retried automatically through WooCommerce Action Scheduler, while automatic reconciliation periodically looks for paid orders that may have been missed.
You can see each order’s Impact status directly from the WooCommerce Orders screen. Color-coded indicators distinguish orders with no eligible attribution, conversions waiting to be processed, submissions accepted by Impact, and errors that need attention. Private order notes and searchable request logs provide more detail when you need to investigate a result.
For older or previously missed orders, the Bulk Backfill screen scans a controlled date range in background batches. A manual “Resend to Impact” order action is also available when you need to retry one specific order.
The connector supports both Impact ClickId and partner promo-code attribution. Impact promo codes are synchronized into WordPress and matched using WooCommerce’s case-insensitive coupon rules. Matching happens locally, so the checkout does not need to contact the Impact Promo Codes API. If an order contains both a trusted ClickId and an eligible coupon, the ClickId receives the first attribution request and the coupon can be sent as a companion request using the same order ID.
Customer status is calculated from the customer’s earlier paid WooCommerce orders, helping Impact distinguish new customers from existing customers. The result is saved on the order so retries and historical backfills continue using the same classification rather than changing it later.
Privacy controls are built into the connection. The Impact authentication token is encrypted before being stored in WordPress, log retention can be limited, and the plugin participates in WooCommerce’s personal-data export and erasure tools. An optional HIPAA mode applies a strict minimized-payload allowlist and removes customer identifiers, email, device information, location, payment method, and product details from both outgoing requests and connector logs.
Impact API Connector supports WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage, classic checkout, and Cart and Checkout Blocks.
How it works
- Install Impact API Connector alongside WooCommerce and your existing Impact link-tracking integration.
- Activate your plugin license and enter your Impact Account SID, Auth Token, Campaign ID, and event identifier.
- Choose your privacy, automation, coupon-handling, and log-retention settings.
- Synchronize your Impact partner promo codes and place an attributed test order.
- Review conversion delivery from the WooCommerce Orders screen or the connector’s searchable logs.
After setup, the connector monitors eligible WooCommerce orders and maintains the recovery workflow in the background.
An important note about attribution
Impact API Connector handles server-side conversion delivery, but it does not replace the inbound tracking that recognizes an affiliate visit.
Keep your normal Impact WordPress plugin or Universal Tracking Tag enabled so affiliate links and ClickIds can be captured. If that integration also sends browser-side purchase conversions, disable the duplicate purchase event so the same WooCommerce order is not reported twice through separate integrations.
The connector can reliably submit and recover conversion requests, but final acceptance, attribution, commission eligibility, and duplicate handling remain subject to your impact.com account and partner-program rules.
Direct Server-to-Server Reporting
Send WooCommerce conversion data directly from WordPress to the impact.com Conversions API instead of relying exclusively on a browser-side purchase event.
Automatic Retries and Reconciliation
Temporary submission failures can be retried through WooCommerce Action Scheduler. Configurable automatic backfills periodically search for recent paid orders that do not have a successful delivery marker.
Bulk Backfill and Manual Resend
Recover missed historical orders in controlled background batches, or resend one order directly from its WooCommerce order actions.
ClickId and Promo-Code Attribution
Support trusted Impact ClickId attribution, eligible partner coupon attribution, and ClickId-first handling when both forms of attribution are present.
Local Promo-Code Registry
Synchronize Impact partner promo codes into WordPress for fast, case-insensitive coupon matching without making a Promo Codes API request during checkout.
Order-Level Delivery Status
See each order’s Impact state from both legacy and HPOS WooCommerce Orders screens. Private order notes provide an additional record of accepted, skipped, resent, and failed attempts.
Searchable Conversion Logs
Search by WooCommerce order number and inspect the request, response, event type, attribution method, HTTP result, and recorded message. Choose a retention period of one, three, or six months.
Durable Customer-Status Reporting
Classify customers as new or existing using earlier paid WooCommerce purchases. The result is stored on the order and reused during retries, resends, and historical backfills.
Privacy and Data-Minimization Controls
Encrypt the Impact authentication token before database storage, control log retention, integrate with WooCommerce personal-data tools, and optionally apply a strict minimized payload through HIPAA mode.
Modern WooCommerce Compatibility
Built for WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage and compatible with both classic checkout and Cart and Checkout Blocks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Impact API Connector replace the normal Impact WordPress plugin?
No. The two integrations have different responsibilities.
Your normal Impact plugin or Universal Tracking Tag captures the inbound affiliate visit and creates the initial attribution data. Impact API Connector stores trusted attribution on the WooCommerce order and handles durable server-side conversion delivery after the order becomes eligible.
Why use server-side conversion reporting?
A browser-side purchase event depends on the customer’s browser and the final page request completing successfully. Server-side reporting gives WordPress responsibility for submitting the conversion, recording the result, and recovering from temporary failures.
It also gives store administrators a visible order-level record instead of leaving conversion delivery hidden inside a browser session.
What do I need before using the plugin?
You need:
- An active WooCommerce store
- An impact.com advertiser account
- An Impact Account SID and Auth Token
- The applicable Campaign ID
- At least one supported event identifier
- An existing Impact link-tracking integration, such as the Impact WordPress plugin or Universal Tracking Tag
The API token also needs permission to read promo codes if you want to use the synchronized partner promo-code registry.
Does the plugin support WooCommerce Cart and Checkout Blocks?
Yes. The connector supports both classic WooCommerce checkout and the Store API used by Cart and Checkout Blocks.
It also supports WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage and uses WooCommerce order APIs rather than depending directly on legacy WordPress post metadata.
What happens when a conversion request fails?
The result is recorded on the WooCommerce order and in the connector’s log. Temporary failures can be scheduled for another attempt through WooCommerce Action Scheduler.
Automatic reconciliation also searches for recent paid orders that do not have a successful delivery marker, helping recover conversions that were missed outside the normal retry path.
Can I resend one order manually?
Yes. Eligible WooCommerce orders include a “Resend to Impact” order action.
The resend uses the attribution and customer-status information saved with that order. It does not borrow attribution from the administrator’s current browser session.
Can I recover multiple older orders?
Yes. The Bulk Backfill screen lets an administrator choose a lookback period and queue a bounded scan of paid orders.
The scan runs in background batches and normally skips orders already marked as accepted. An optional recovery mode can include prior successes when you have reason to believe older success markers were unreliable.
Recovery mode may resubmit conversions that Impact has already received, so it should be used deliberately.
What happens when an order has both a ClickId and a coupon code?
The connector sends the trusted ClickId request first. If companion coupon reporting is enabled and the coupon is eligible, it sends a coupon request using the same WooCommerce order ID.
This preserves the ClickId’s first attribution claim while allowing Impact to evaluate the partner promo code under its own attribution and duplicate-handling rules.
How does promo-code filtering work?
The connector synchronizes your advertiser’s partner-assigned promo codes from Impact and stores them locally in WordPress.
WooCommerce coupon codes are normalized case-insensitively, so variations such as SAVE10, save10, and Save10 are treated as the same code. In the recommended registry mode, the connector looks for a partner assignment that was active on the order date.
Administrators can instead choose to submit every coupon-bearing order without registry filtering.
What happens if the promo-code registry cannot be refreshed?
The connector uses fail-open behavior.
If the registry has never synchronized, has become stale, belongs to different connection settings, or cannot be refreshed, potentially eligible coupon orders continue to be submitted rather than being silently discarded.
The Promo Codes screen shows registry health and the date of the last successful synchronization.
How does the plugin determine whether a customer is new or existing?
The connector looks for earlier paid WooCommerce orders associated with the customer’s account or billing email address.
Only purchases made before the current conversion are considered. Once calculated, the customer status is stored on the order and reused for future retries, manual resends, and backfills.
What do the order-status colors mean?
- Gray means no trusted ClickId or eligible coupon was found.
- Yellow means the conversion is waiting to be sent or retried.
- Green means Impact accepted the request, including responses returned as queued.
- Red means an actual submission error needs attention.
Hovering over or focusing the indicator provides additional detail. The order’s private notes and the plugin’s conversion log provide a fuller history.
Does the plugin prevent duplicate conversions?
The connector stores successful delivery markers on WooCommerce orders and normally avoids resubmitting an order that Impact has already accepted.
However, you should disable duplicate browser-side purchase reporting in your other Impact integration. Manual resends and backfill recovery mode can also intentionally submit a previously successful order again.
Impact ultimately applies its own duplicate and attribution rules using the submitted order ID.
What information is sent to Impact?
Standard mode can send supported conversion, customer, device, location, payment, order, item, and attribution fields. Customer email addresses are hashed before transmission.
The plugin does not invent or transmit unsupported name, street-address, or telephone fields.
The exact fields should still be reviewed against your privacy policy, consent configuration, contracts, and impact.com account requirements.
What is HIPAA mode?
HIPAA mode applies a strict allowlist to outgoing conversion requests. It retains only the campaign and event identifiers, event date, order ID, amount, currency, customer status, and applicable ClickId or promo code.
Customer identifiers, email, IP address, browser information, billing location, payment method, and product details are excluded from both the request and the connector’s request log.
HIPAA mode is a technical data-minimization feature. It does not, by itself, make a website, business process, or vendor relationship HIPAA compliant.
Where are the Impact credentials stored?
Plugin settings are stored as non-autoloaded WordPress options. The Impact Auth Token is encrypted using a key derived from the site’s WordPress authentication salts before it is saved to the database.
The stored token is never displayed back in the settings field.
What data does the plugin store locally?
Depending on your configuration and order activity, the plugin can store:
- First-party Impact attribution cookies
- Attribution and delivery metadata on WooCommerce orders
- A local registry of Impact partner promo codes
- Customer-status classification associated with an order
- Request and response logs for the selected retention period
The plugin participates in WooCommerce’s personal-data export and erasure tools. Erasing connector data from an order also prevents that order from being resubmitted later.
Does the plugin guarantee that Impact will credit every conversion?
No plugin can control Impact’s final attribution or commission decisions.
Impact API Connector provides a durable, observable way to submit eligible conversions and recover from missed or temporary failures.
Impact still determines whether a request is accepted, attributed, deduplicated, or commissionable under your account and partner-program rules.
How does licensing work?
After installing the licensed build, open WooCommerce → Impact API Connector → License and enter your purchase key.
Operational features—including attribution capture, conversion submission, retries, backfills, promo-code synchronization, order tools, and status indicators—become available after the license is successfully activated.
